Lockdown/Down to Work

Responding to the impact of Covid-19 on young creatives

When the government lockdown in March 2020 was announced, Create Jobs partnered with careers scheme Creative Society to find out how young people's employment and financial situation had changed since the outbreak of Covid-19. We surveyed and ran focus groups with over 100 young diverse Londoners to find out what support they needed and whether those needs were met by government or other means.

The results showed that young people desperately needed financial advice and guidance as well as support with their mental health. As such we launched our employment surgeries, weekly one-to-one surgeries which gave 18-30-year-olds advice on support available from HMRC and elsewhere.

The surgeries supported 166 young people over 22 weeks.
